Central African republic President, Michel Djotodia. |
I guess it is true - there is first time for everything. The gist is that in Central African Republic, common sense has finally prevailed on their president, with his principal sponsor - Chad frustrated with his leadership style, and several calls for his resignation amid religious violence that has gotten out of control.
Embattled interim president (I figure this is why he is leaving anyway), Michel Djotodia is reportedly due to step down at a
summit of regional leaders on Thursday. He has failed miserably to quell
religious violence in his country, and attempts by both French and African troops to end tit-for-tat violence between the Muslim Seleka rebels and Christian militias has has so far failed also. More than 1,000 people dead in clashes last year December alone..
As far as I can recalled, this will be the first president - whether interim or full time, that a political office holder in African will step down voluntarily, they are either killed in office or sit tight till they are disgraced out of office. Hopefully, with his
decision to step down, violence will end in that country, and people can go on with their normal lives.
