He
played the role of Will Smith’s uncle in the 1990’s iconic sitcom - The Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air. His name is James Avery - he passed away at the age of 68 from what has been
confirmed as “complications from open heart surgery."
He
had been battling poor health, and
recently underwent open heart surgery, he died in a Los Angeles hospital on new year's eve with Barbara Avery (his wife) beside him during his final
moments. He is most famous for his role as Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of
Bel-Air. May his soul rest in peace.
