At first, I
thought it was a joke, and then came an apology. A school in northern California apologized for a Black History Month blunder - lunch menu that offended
students and parents. (Chicken and Watermelon) – in case you don’t understand the
offense in the said menu – try and Google Blacks/Chicken/Watermelon in US or just keep reading.
School administrators
at Carondelet High School for Girls, a private Christian school in Concord,
Calif., was reported last week that, they wanted to celebrate Black
History Month during lunch by serving the students fried chicken,
cornbread and watermelon, a local NBC affiliate reports.
Parents and students expressed outrage at the stereotypical choice. the apology letter by the Principal - Nancy Libby read “I’d like to apologize for the announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members,” she was also quoted that; “Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes.”
